Much the same thing happened to me. My first period after the abortion was much heavier than usual, and I spotted both before and after. Because of the hormones in my system, my cycle was thrown entirely off, too, and my first period was about six weeks after the abortion. My doctor explained it to me as my body "resetting itself."

It's possible to get pregnant right after having an abortion. But more likely your cycle is just working itself out. :)
