Photoshop CS2: uses selective coloring & color balance

Notes
This tutorial will not work for every icon.
Its best to play around with settings and opacities to fit your own needs.
Please do not follow this guide to make an exact replica of the example.

Step 1.
Duplicate your base.
Set this layer to screen at 10%.


Step 2.
Create a new selective coloring layer.
Input the following.

Reds
cyan (+100)
yellow (+100)

Yellows
cyan (+100)
yellow (-100)

Neutrals
cyan (+25)
magenta (+16)
yellow (+25)
black (+10)


Step 3.
Create a new color balance layer.
Input the following.

Midtones
(+23) (-20) (-15)

Shadows
(0) (0) (-29)


Step 4.
Create a new layer and fill it with (#022448).
Set this layer to exclusion at 100%.


Step 5.
Duplicate your base; drag it to the top.
Set this layer to softlight at 100%.


Step 6.
Create a new layer and fill it with (#B3B3B3).
Set this layer to softlight at 100%.


Step 7.
Create a new layer and fill it with (#DFDFDF).
Set this layer to color burn at 100%.


Step 8.
Create a new selective coloring layer.
Input the following.

Reds
cyan (-100)

Yellows
cyan (+100)
yellow (+100)

Neutrals
cyan (+63)
yellow (-48)


Step 9.
Duplicate your base and drag it to the top.
Set this layer to softlight at 100%.
Increase the saturation by 25%.
