Justin Bieber just descended with angel wings. I am drunk enough to think I imagined that, but it's actually happening. Parents keep asking me where my kids are, and I tell them I'm a grad student researching teen pop and they're intrigued. I'm really kind of afraid that I'll be drunk at the 1D concert next year and just be like, "I'm here because ( Read more... )

Don't we all?

I mean, um, I'm glad I don't currently have tickets to a 1D concert. But if they ever release more, or set up more shows in my town, then I can't be responsible for what will happen. :)

I'm currently trawling ticket broker sites and debating 4th row center (good view for recording, which is the actual point of this endeavor) or 1st row on the right (OMG, they might see me! Harry loves 32-year-olds!) I am appalled at myself.

All the shows here in Australia sold out in minutes. I just looked it up - they're playing 20 shows over 17 days. I've never seen any schedule that crazy. Part of me wants them to add shows so I can fight 12 year olds to tickets, but part of me just wants them to not die of exhaustion. :P

Yeah, just in the Southwestern US, they're doing two Bay Area shows, two Vegas, one San Diego, and three in Los Angeles. No one does that, especially in 11 days. I was all happy at first that I could conceivably make both Bay Area shows, and then it occurred to me that no one ever does two Bay Area arena shows, especially back to back, because it's insane.

Their management clearly knows what they're doing: teenagers have short attention spans, and why sell 20,000 tickets in a metro area when you can sell 40 or 60? But it's a lot to do. I kind of hope they lose some popularity by the end of next year, just so they don't have to do this again.

And you made me curious, so I looked up NSync's schedule from 2001-2002. It was somewhat similar, but they had fewer shows, they only did North America, and they averaged 85% ticket sales. This whole eight months, three continents, 100% sold out thing is amazing.
