WOW. I DIDN'T KNOW! WE'VE NEVER HAD VASES AT HOME.

I grew up in a house with a massive yard and an ever bigger backyard with these beautiful, vine-covered stone walls. There was a big coconut tree, lots of pandan plants, flowers - roses and orchids especially and guava trees. But we never kept flowers inside the house.
