Aright, Sergeant Grammar, the brackets might not be used to 100% accuracy, but one of the general uses they've evolved into that I've seen is to paraphrase an action, ie in interviews "[laughs] I think that...[etc]", so to cite the type of grammar I'm using, I'm using it in the informal, modern adaptive sense. There, now people can sleep at night, the great confusion that my post has generated has been cleared up and the clocks may now continue ticking.
