Following up on the previous post, did a quick skim of livejournals and it just seems to add to the evidence for the people being self-centered camp. Most of the entries, presumably reflective of a person's thoughts and feelings, are about their days, or situations, or who they like or don't like. Any logical reasonings or other ways of looking ( Read more... )

Well, mike...you gotta understand three things:

A) People are always gonna look out for #1. Everyone does it, even you. At some level at least. Some people just take it more to the extreme than most.

B) livejournals are used(at least in my opinion) for informing those who care(i.e., ur friends etc.) about what's going on in your life! At least, that's why I started my LJ....it's a place where people if they wanna know what i've been up to, can look. In addition, it's a place where I can vent/rant/make an opinion/talk about my feelings/day. It's purpose is inherently selfish.

C)Your own livejournal can be somehwat looked in the same light. Your entries are also self involved: you talk about situations that happened with yourself, personal problems, personal vendettas against a certain group of people, etc. You're not exactly always reaching out to help others yourself(not that it's a bad thing, but something to be aware of).

I pretty much agree with all of that. It was just a judgement on these facts, that if a livejournal is indeed where people post their thoughts, feelings, etc, that there's a considerable and saddening lack of thoughts, feelings, etc, for other people. My own livejournal was one of those included in the survey/judgement that I was referring to; I'm including myself in the assessment of apathetic and egocentric people despite unexceptional efforts. While my journal is generally composed of random and sometimes disturbing thoughts with personal problems, I like to think the few vendettas are more general and not personal.
