Summary: "I’m addicted to you." Dr. Kim Minseok could taste the lie in Lu Han’s mouth. Lu Han wasn’t addicted to him or even Apomidium. He was addicted to power.

But maybe it did start with Apomidium.

It was marketed as a “miracle pill” and was believed to replace acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium as the top over-the-counter pain-reliever. And it did. Apomidium, unlike its predecessors, didn’t slowly poison the liver or burn holes in the stomach; its consumers experienced no side-effects whatsoever.

Apomidium’s structure consisted of a benzene ring core substituted by a tert-butyl group and an amide group. Dr. Kim Minseok found that this allowed Apomidium to possess both analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its conception was, in Dr. Kim Minseok’s words, “a gateway into a new field of pharmaceutical chemistry.”

EXO, the pharmaceutical company that mass-produced Apomidium, monopolized the pain-reliever market. Due to its international success, CEO Lu Han made the “30 Under 30” Forbes list of young, multi-billionaire entrepreneurs.

Apomidium bottles flew off the shelves in China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, the United States, Brazil, and in the black markets of many, many more countries. Several cases of rioting occurred when stores ran out of Apomidium shipments. Presidents, prime ministers, and the occasional dictator bowed down to EXO, the pharmaceutical company that now ruled the world.

“We did it, Minseok,” Lu Han said, raising a glass of Italian-imported wine. “We’re kings.”

Lu Han couldn’t help but giggle to himself. He wiped his ass with euros and blew his nose with yuan. Sometimes he would swallow diamonds whole and revel in the way they cut down his esophagus.

Minseok smiled back at him.

He silently noted how sapphires would gather at the corners of Lu Han’s eyes when he coughed up rubies, how amethyst would drip from his lips, how his heart pumped onyx. Even when Lu Han started losing his teeth, he continued to smile because his golden dentures gleamed under the Swarovski crystal chandeliers.

It was a placebo happiness, but Minseok smiled back. He would always smile back because he too was addicted to this life, to Lu Han’s immortalization.

Three months later, the CEO of the pharmaceutical company EXO was found dead in a bathtub full of liquid gold. There were pearls spilling from his empty eye sockets.

A/N: I'm studying to get into pharmacy school and look what I write orz. (Also I made up Adpomidium's structure and totally bs'ed the organic chemistry of its properties and such I'm sorry.)
