I thought you'd love the Tiefling vs. the Gnome. That had Melthior written all over it. The interview was a little like being in his head for a few minutes.
Hee Hee... actually, yes (depending on your DM). There are stats in the back of the Monster Manual for use of some of the humanoid monsters as PCs. Obviously these are subject to change as more books come out, but they at least give you the option.
