holy man, I totally agree. There are so many things at this stupid university that piss me off, and them not caring is way up there! It sux eh. You are so right, we pour money to them and keep them with their jobs, and yet they don't give a shit at all. Brutal. Thats too bad about the student though. I didn't konw about it, and didn't konw him either. This school really bothers me sometimes.
When Erik Schultz (trumpet prof at UWO) passed away, there was no memoriam, no write-up and no flag-at-half-mast or anything...at least not for him -- the same day, they had a little blurb and the flag at half-mast for a retired physical plant worker.
My guess is that the university only found out about his death recently. Remember, admin isn't omniscient...if any of us were to die tomorrow, the only way the university would find out is if someone - parents, family, friends, whoever - told them. And people usually have more pressing things to do immediately after the death of someone close to them than call the university.
It IS weird that they didn't give any other info on him, though.
As for Prof. Schultz, I'm guessing nobody informed physical plant (who are in charge of the flag lowering/raising), and thus physical plant never told Western News (who do the webpage blurbs). This, btw, is the reason so many of the In Memoriams are for phys plant workers.
I read in the Gazette that there was a memorial service for him today. I think that's probably why they were flying at half mast today and not earlier....
