While I attempt to suss out characters for my Camp NaNovel, and everyone else pulls out their copy of The Bacta War (reading starts today!), let's chat about The Krytos Trap.

I liked this book for several reasons:

- We get to see how many of the characters deal under stress. We also get to see how far each is willing to go for one another. The squadron's loyalty, despite its relative infancy, is probably the star of the novel.
- Tal'dira.
- Wedgan'tillies, slayer of stars. (Or, conversely, Wedge Antilles, One so foul he could induce vomiting in a rancor.)
- Luke Skywalker.
- Tal'dira.
- The bit with the Lusankya taking off.
- Tal'dira.

That's it, in a nutshell, I suppose.

I didn't find too much of Corran's plot too gratuitous until he hits the Jedi relics. And personally, I don't know why the hell he didn't try to find a datacard he could have copied much of that database on to hand over to NRI, because srsly. That was a LOT of intel that could have been used for much good, and helped the New Republic exonerate or condemn people they had been iffy about in the first place. Folks might chalk it up to Corran having been through torture and then the near miss of being caught and the adrenaline of his escape and the threat of re-capture, but I think at some point his CorSec training should have kicked in and had him casing the joint at lightspeed.

Other than that, the book was a great look at Tycho's character, and how he fits into the entire social structure - for lack of a better term - of not just Rogue Squadron, but of the entire New Republic.

And Big Brother Wedge was nice to see, as he counsels Mirax as she grieves for Corran. He really does seem to be the heart that holds together a great many individual lives, and it's a wonder he doesn't go stark raving mad with the responsibility.

This book is one of the highlights of the series for me, I think, despite it not being a self-contained, stand-alone story.

How about you?
