I'm caving to peer "pressure"

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?

Walked part of the 88 Temple Pilgrimage. Went to Wakayama. "Appeared" in a movie. Took a train trip across the country and met my old group of friends in SF.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?

The single one that I made was one I didn't keep. I'm turning 30 this year, I sure as hell better keep it this time.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Nope.

5. What countries did you visit?

Well...I WAS living in Japan. Sometimes it still feels like I'm just visiting America.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?

A boyfriend. It's so cliche, but it's about freakin' time.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

July 31st. I left Japan.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I felt the most proud walking those first 10 temples of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage.

9. What was your biggest failure?

One I'm still dealing with...not being able to pull myself out of the mire that is reverse culture shock. Also? Being an intelligent woman who is completely ignorant about things that are quite basic to others.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Sort of? I got ill after all-you-can-eat-oyseters.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

That frame for the picture I gave to Nick as a going-away present. Best.gift.ever.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Hilo. She went to Ukraine with the Peace Corps!

13. Whose behavior made you appalled?

My own.

14. Where did most of your money go?

It's going to living expenses as we speak. No job, so nothing is coming in, which is a bit demoralizing (what a party pooper I am).

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Going to SF, completing my goal of walking the first 10 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage Temples (with Angelina!). (ok, and maybe "Bones" coming back)

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?

The Glee cast's cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing".

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? sadder
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter
iii. richer or poorer? poorer

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Thought ahead.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Unthinking as to what I would do after Japan.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

Spent it with my sister-in-law's family...but mostly with my nephews.

21. Did you fall in love in 2009?

Nope. Had a major crush...but I guess that actually started at the end of 2008. That's about as far as it went though.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

Bones. Not the most intelligent choice, but close to my heart anyway.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Not hate, but have quite a bit of contempt for, yes.

24. What was the best book you read?

Hmmm best in quality? The Tea House Fire. I also started reading Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series...which I LOVE.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery of 2009?

Uhm.

26. What did you want and get?

Er.

27. What did you want and not get?

A post-JET job. Direction.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

It's difficult to say as I don't remember all the movies I saw this year.

29. What did you do on your birthday?

Dinner with Raechel and Jamie at Chevy's! Yum, yum.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Having a real plan to set into motion after coming home from Japan.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?

Pretty much anything that didn't look hideous was something I work. Otherwise? Converse.

32. What kept you sane?

My friends. My fandoms. Sad, but true, as to the latter.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Uhm...I...don't know.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

Everything related to gay rights. It drives me insane when something goes against it. It makes me want to cry.

35. Who did you miss?

Nick & Angelina (no offese BAB, it's just that I've ALWAYS known you from a distance)

36. Who was the best new person you met?

I'm not sure I met anyone in 2009 who's necessarily become particularly important to me. Everyone is pre-2009!

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:

That at 28 (as I was for most of the year) I was largely ignorant about basic life issues. Still am, still figuring it out. It's quite humbling.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

This kind of thing is always difficult for me...because music is usually personal because I can attach it to a show that I love...or an event that happened...so I don't necessarily love it because it reflects how I feel about myself, but how I felt when I watched a show, or how I was feeling when I was doing something...if that makes sense...?
