I don't tend to do 'blogs' that are not about building relationships..i.e. standalone blogs....what draws me to social networking is relationships not reading someone's soapbox. Don't take me the wrong way.. i'm not saying that there aren't lots of great and interesting things people say that i would like to read..but i'm motivated by people and stand alone blogs are not motivated by relationships.
I have real friends off of social media sites and even lovers and housemates.. but since the advent of 120 characters or less content sites like twitter or facebook.. that has gone down significantly.
LJ is really the only social media site that has actually resulted in depth of connection..and LJ is basically dead..but I'm still holding on.

i think it does give the illusion of intimacy.
If you lived in the same neck of woods with me.. I would totally go to coffee with you. I'm all about bring online friendships offline.
