Without a stance on gender identity, I have to wonder how useful that definition is. I mean, feminism as the dictionary defined ideal, and feminism as the movement are different, and I accept that you can get around that with capitalisation and so forth. But feminism: Equality-between-the-sexes is totally different in terms of manifesto than feminism Women-are-empowered-to-decide-what-being-a-woman-means.
Best thing I read about feminism all week was on a discussion thread on whether rape should be seen as a feminist issue. Someone posted:
"Can't we just agree that rape, absolutely and definitely including the rape of men, is a feminist issue, and get on with working out a better way of dealing with it all together?"
Wow, I don't think I've ever seen anyone feel the need to restate the same point that many times in the same article. Then again, if the point had only been stated as many times as were actually needed, it wouldn't be an article; it would be a bumper sticker.
I'm very much of the busy, but I will for sure read this later. I just wanted to swing by to say Happy Birthday in case you don't go on facebook (chance are high, no?) So, Happy Birthday Alex! I miss you thiiiiisss much! *Hugses!*
