Saw Spiderman 3 last night and while I love the franchise, they do make it hard for me sometimes when all the female characters ever do is fall and scream, maybe throw something. Even Gwen Stacey was horribly under-used. Warren Ellis writes him some awesome females, but I'm not sure if Jenny Sparks or Shannon and Yelena could be called role models anymore than any other character in a Warren Ellis work.

I would definitely second the Barbara Gordon and Stephanie Brown mention.

I'd also add current Lois Lane, and I'd add Amanda Waller. And Helena Bertinelli. Also Cassandra Cain,pre-OYL. (NEVER HAPPENED, SHUT UP.)

Also, odd as it may seem, I'd add Starfire.

I'd also add Anissa Pierce and Grace Choi. Possibly also current Selina Kyle.

Ooooh! And definitely Kate Spencer. Yes. Manhunter ROCKS.
