“I love you, Tiffany.”
“No you don’t, Jess, and it’s too late.”
The finality in Tiffany’s statement affected Jessica way more than the girl thought it would. Her heart sunk and she began to wonder if it’s worthed to start this again.
She broke her relationship off with Tiffany a few years ago, and it’s bad because Tiffany’s words still affect her as much as it did back then.
“You should’ve said it a few years ago.” Tiffany breathed while she covered her eyes with her hands, tears escaped her eyes unwantedly. The almost empty dorm went quiet, listening to soft chokes and hushed snivels as Tiffany cry.
Jessica bit her lower lip. She didn’t know if she should be happy or sad when she realized that her words, too, still affect Tiffany.
“Don’t touch me.” Tiffany hissed as she stared at Jessica and swatted her approaching hand.
“Your love is late.” The red haired girl stepped back.
“And your love is cruel.” Another step back.
“What are you doing to me, Jessica?” Tiffany spoke after she calmed herself down, her thoughts, however, were polluted with their silly fights and their sleepless nights, but it all ended with the devastating break up.
The break up.
Tiffany remembered how it took Taeyeon a few weeks to be able to approach Tiffany without turning the younger girl into a living water fountain. She loathed herself back then; she didn’t know she could be that weak because of a break up.
Tiffany’s back hit the wall and it broke the dam.
“why, Jessica? Why now? Is this some cruel sick joke you like to play?”
“Tiff, I’m sorry, I know I --”
“Do you know that I spent my days thinking… wondering… ”
“I told you, it’s for the best… It’s for the sake of the group…”
“How can it be for the sake of the group when all I wanted to do for the past year and a half was quitting the damn group?” Tiffany spat, her emotion took the better part of her. Her voice raised but she knew she’d lose this battle if she followed her heart’s yearnings.
Jessica took her chance and hugged the sobbing girl. She was glad Tiffany didn’t push her away, although Tiffany didn’t hug her back.
“I know the group is the most precious thing to you, and I also know that you’re the happiest when you’re singing on stage… That’s why I don’t think I can be selfish and risk it all away for our relationship.” The older girl whispered as she tried to soothe the younger one.
Tiffany broke away from the hug, she felt cheated and lost, she didn’t understand.
She was about to speak when Jessica continued her explanation.
“You know when I love someone, I think of them as my own?” Jessica looked into Tiffany’s tear-streaked face and thumbed her tears away.
Tiffany’s silence after the declaration was deafening for both parties, and Jessica decided that Tiffany ought to know the truth.
“Do you know that I love you more than anything in this world? I’m afraid that I can’t hide my feelings for you in public… If we are to stay together any longer, I’m sure people will notice. I can’t risk them finding out. I can’t risk the girls’ hard work, I can’t…”
Jessica hugged Tiffany again as she whispered “But I’m hoping that your love is forgiving. I’m hoping that your love is still kind because breaking up with you killed me too, and I don't think I can last any longer.”
Tiffany finally returned the hug and replied “I think Taeyeon will hate you even more now.”
Jessica smiled knowing Tiffany had forgiven her.
