Renee knew she had betrayed Larry's trust and it truly was the last thing she wanted to do. "I just," she began, as she bit her lip slightly, "I just...wanted to say I'm sorry."

She wanted to say more, but she felt that pleading her case again would probably just lead to another argument. Still, she knew he deserved more of an answer than that.

He paused then, seeming to consider everything as the wheels in his head turned. Larry was no longer sure he could trust her, but then he started to think: who could he trust? Certainly not Hillinger. Janis was running her mouth off half the time. He really didn't have a lot of allies.

"I know," he said. "You did...you did what you felt was right, Renee. That's all anyone can ask you to do. But I need someone I can trust, 'cause there aren't a whole lot of people I trust right now."

She nodded, trying to keep her composure. "After everything's that happened today....I know..." She trailed off for a moment, trying to think of something better to say.

Renee took a breath and tried once again. "I didn't want to betray you. But what if Burnett knew something else? What if he knew something that could stop...whatever else might happen today?"

She winced as soon as she finished speaking, knowing too well that wasn't the right thing to say either.

Larry didn't want to think about what else might happen today.

"I'm just so damn tired," he said softly. "Of all of this. I almost lost you today and I've seen more suffering than I think I've seen in my whole career. I don't want to lose sight of what we're here to do - if we let one suspect get pushed, what about the next? Where does it stop?"
