On the AbsoluteWrite forum boards where I hang out, there's a whole subforum for story research; people are allowed to ask random questions and the people there who have the relevant expertise (who are all writers, but beyond that are from all different walks of life) can answer. But it lends itself to some strange thread titles, like "I need to kill a child and make it look like an accident," "How would committing murder affect a young person?" and "Lost in the woods with a newborn." Then there is the enigmatic "Baltimore???" thread.

...Yeah. We writers are a strange bunch :)
