Last week (feels a lot longer ago than that)
pavanne and I took the Eurostar to Paris for a Christmas treat and a weekend away together. I had booked a room in a four star hotel for two nights, as if something's worth doing it's worth doing right.
Ordered champagne to the room for the first night before going out for dinner, so we sat around in kimonos drinking champagne and eating candied fruits before going out for rich italian food.
On Saturday morning we got out of bed fairly late (champagne induced) and wandered through the Parc Montsouris before finding a little café to eat croque monsieurs and drink coffee. In the afternoon we went up to the Louvre (we didn't go inside - time restraints meant it wasn't particularly effective) and wandered up the Champs Elysees and saw the Arc de Triomphe.
We ate in a bistro in Montmartre, which was again very nice.
Sunday morning we ordered breakfast in bead and sat eating croissants and pains with jam. We left bags in the hotel and went up to see the Eiffel Tower and walk in the Bois de Boulogne before eating in a big indoor restaurant that appears to be an old baggage hall/post room/something like that. They wrote your bill on the tablecloth and added to it as we ordered more things. That was a very interesting experience - they just sit you in any free seats, so we shared a four table with a couple of French guys.
We collected bags from the hotel and caught the Eurostar home, where we got take out chinese to round off an excellent weekend.
