Never one to miss an opportunity to have good food and wine and see
pavanne again, we held our Valentine's celebration this weekend. Arrived in Cambridge about 20.30 on the Friday, expecting baked beans and jacket potatoes and grated cheese. No such luck.
pavanne had gotten her hands on some nice pieces of meat and cooked a very nice Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. Along with a nice bottle of red wine it was a lovely meal.
Went out on Saturday to purchase ingredients for Hot and Sour soup. Picking the one day that every shop in Central Cambridge was out of Bird Eye chillis and chilli oil and the likes was not the best idea I've had.
dunkyb and I traipsed around for a couple of hours until the Asda finally gave us what we required. This meant we only had three hours to pub, but we still managed to get some table football in so all was well.
The making of the soup was a great success - less glutinous than similar soups we've had when eating out but still spicy enough. Consumed a bottle of pink champagne between us and also had noodles and fried tofu and pak choi.
On Sunday morning we walked up to Girton to swim, with me finally in posession of a pair of goggles. I'd always presumed that people who can 'see underwater' could see as if they were looking normally. I've never been able to open my eyes underwater so I've always had to wear goggles. Apparently this isn't the case, however.
Sunday night we caught the bus into town and ate at the Eraina Taverna, which had a disappointingly weak vegetarian selection and two bottles of wine, which may have been a bad idea on reflection. Thankfully the Corn Exchange was right nearby so we were able to stagger there just as the gig started.
Fairport Convention were really pretty good and it was a good opportunity to pick up souvenirs for our respective fathers.
It was a really nice weekend with a lot of great food and drink and some good conversation and it was most pleasant. Back up again on Friday, anyway, so that's also good.
