Are you supposed to be working a 45-hour week? If not, do something about it, dude. No wonder you're down if you're not getting any time outside work.

Well, the contract is 9 to 6 with an hour for lunch, but it tends to be 10ish to 7.30ish, with less than an hour taken.

I'm concious I work a lot less than most of my colleagues so I don't like going home at dead on 9 hours.

If no-one's complained that you're not getting enough work done, I really wouldn't start giving yourself (presumably unpaid) overtime just because you don't seem to be working as fast as your coworkers. And besides, you'll probably be more productive if you start getting some proper rest.

You didn't seem so stressed for the first 4 months or so. Why do you think that is?

Your life may be less exciting than it once was, but at least you get paid for being bored.
