Your honestly not serious here... The US invaded Iraq under false pretenses and then proceeded to screw up big time after they replaced Saddam. But hate to tell you Saddam was an evil man who massacured thousands of people.. Sorry Bryan but i actually took offence to what you just wrote.
I think your characterization of the situation is fairly apt, but I wouldn't call Hussein a "noble martyr" or a particularly "civilized man" - at least not compared to the sectarian death squads roaming Iraq. But whatever purpose was served by his execution, justice it was not.
I'm glad I got people thinking here. Since Saddam was sentenced to death in a farce of a trial for one of the least of his many crimes, the true depth of his atrocities will probably never come to light. And since he was rushed to the gallows, he can't be tried for the rest of his crimes at a later date. They might as well not have happened.
When I call him "noble", who's to say that I'm wrong? Show me the legal documents proving that he was a monster, and convince me of their fairness. As far as anyone can now prove, Saddam was an innocent man. Now *that* is a crime against humanity.
I suppose nothing was going to convince them otherwise. Still, could it have hurt to keep him alive at least long enough to try him for all of his crimes in the International Criminal Court?
This is what leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Hussein died pain-free without ever having been brought to justice. It feels as if he's still at large.
Of course I'm not serious. But if you watch the video of his execution, it's not hard to see how some people could indeed characterize him as civilized and his detractors as savages. This execution just does not sit well with me. Saddam is laughing from the Muslim afterlife, when he should be rotting in prison for the rest of his miserable existence, after a fair trial.

Try telling that to a Sunni.
