I'm on a mission.

I'm out to prove kansasjt wrong. He sent me a demo, already half polished, where the verse changes key going into the chorus (and comes back around to the original key with the next verse). I think he's got a winner on his hands, ladies and gents, both lyrically and with the music, but he wants to change this to where the whole song is in the same key. ( Read more... )

Key changes rule. I'd like to hear it.

Cheers!

I listened to it last night and I came up with several comments. The chord change sounded awkward to me, to be honest. There were other problems I heard in the song (I actually took notes on it).

What notes did you end up with?

Two of them were about the percussion being a little off. Another was about the harmonies and yet another was about the vocals in general.

But about the key change: I vote to drop it. It sounded awkward to me.

For a demo, I thought it sounded pretty together... but I think with a healthy helping of rehearsal it could really come together.

Maybe someday soon we'll get to hear both versions of this side by side. Until then, I'm still gonna say keep the change.

Why would I hate you? That's exactly what I'm trying to tell him -- don't change it to where the verse and chorus is all in one key, keep the change. Or maybe I completely switched teams on my post...
