Title: Merry Christmas Morty
Characters: Morty and his HG/SS Pokemon
Rating: G
Summary: Morty wakes up on a snowy Christmas morning, at a loss for what to do. Thankfully, he has his faithful Pokemon. A heartwarming one-shot, possible introduction to series.

AN: I wrote this last summer, inspired by a work of fanart I saw (maybe after reading this you'll be able to recall the one I mean). If you stalk around FanFiction.net then you may have seen it before. I decided I would share it here too, even though we have like half a year until Christmastime again. Though it's simple, short, and doesn't have smutty pairings, etc. I hope you find it an enjoyable read.
Comments and constructive criticism are welcome! Also, let me know if you might like me to expand with this story, adding pairings and plots next as this can be considered an introduction.

Late morning. I open my eyes. I slink out of my bed and slowly drift to the window. A sheet of glowing snow covers Ecruteak. It must have fallen in the night, and it is so blindingly white that I must contort my face. I sigh and proceed to put on some clothing.

Stepping outside, I bring my scarf higher up to my chin, closer to my mouth. With my shoulders raised slightly, I cross my arms and snow crunches under my feet. I notice the streets are empty. However, as I pass by the Dance Hall, one of the Kimono Girls is kneeling on the ground cheerily feeding berries to a small flock of Pidgey. She glances up at me and smiles. "Merry Christmas, Morty." With a swift nod of my head, I flash a tiny grin back at her and continue forward.

I am not one to celebrate much.

Not registering with common sense yet this morning, I am headed in the direction of my gym. I realize there is not a single trainer that would plan to challenge me on this day. I scrap the idea and make a turn for the Bellchime Trail. I enjoy going there often, maybe too often. It is just so peaceful there, especially when I am alone. When I am alone there, it is nothing but me and my footsteps amongst the silence and the autumn trees. It is calming, and I can hear my own mind more clearly.

I arrive and I walk calmly down the path. Most of the fiery orange color is masked by frost and the snow's whiteness. The change is pleasant. Somehow, the Trail seems more magical this way. I come to a stop and stare up at the snow-covered Tin Tower, grand yet still lacking Ho-Oh.

An hour or so passes. I contemplate this holiday, and reminisce on how I have remained so lonely these past few years on a day to be spent with loved ones. I put a hand to my face and mutter to myself about how I am an idiot. One by one, I release my six Pokémon from their Pokéballs. Drifblim, Mismagius, Dusknoir, Sableye, and my two Gengar surround me. I greet them, but say nothing more. Each of them senses that this is not a regular day. They tell me to stay put as they billow and spread into the forest and the sky and disappear. Ghost Pokémon are always up to something. I do as they told me and wait patiently for their return.

Spotting one of my Gengar first, I perk up a bit. Within moments, all of my Pokémon are surrounding me once again. I decide to sit on the frosty ground. It is then that I notice each of my Pokémon clutching tiny packages complete with colorful ribbons. They huddle closer to me, offering their gifts and urging me to open them. They all appear as proud as can be. I am uplifted.

"Thank you," I say. And, after a short pause, I add, "Merry Christmas."
