In my mind there are two kinds of cleaning. One kind is the friend-coming-over-in-an-hour kind, where you shove things under your bed and in the closet and hope no one notices. The other kind is when you sit on the floor covered in sweat and your own life grime. Yesterday our landlord came over for a most ambiguous "inspection". I figured it would ( Read more... )

Inspection?

Apparently our caretaker is in jail now. Go us.

Yeah. It seemed a bit strange to us that the notice (which was given to all tenants) didn't say what they were inspecting for. Brandy's theory is that since they're having "financial difficulty" they they're just checking to see if they can squeeze any damage money out of us.

In jail for something related the cop buzzer incident or for things related to your apartment?

I saw Chris Murphy on teevee the other day and thought of you! More specifically, that time you made him speak to Colleen on the phone!

Anyway, yes. Amazing album from start to finish! My only worry is that I borrowed it from someone and forgot to give it back, but who could that be? Otherwise I have a generous music guardian angel who likes to leave nice things about for me to find at my convenience.

I'm sure I will have a wonderful time! How could I not?

I always feel so proud of them in a really strange way! I want them to do well and feel like I'm seeing friends when they're on MuchMusic or whatever.

I'm silly!

OMG, amazing! Sloan was my very first concert! I saw them at Dalhousie when I was in junior high. Mike O'Neill (of the then recently broken up Inbreds) opened. He was wearing a parka and sang a song about garbage. They played like, every one of their singles and I was such a happy girl.

Where and when did you see them?

I have a box just like that.

One of the greatest moments of my life was when I could go through the box and be happy and think "Yeah, those were fun times". As opposed to my previous feelings of anger or sadness over things gone wrong.

Do most girls have those kinds of boxes? It seems like something that most people would have, but none of my girl friends would ever admit to it!

Those kinds of moments are definitely always great moments. And going through the box each one of the past 2183901 times, that's exactly how I've always felt. Yesterday I must have just been in a grouchy mood. Very inexplicable!

I think all girls must have these boxes or some variations on them. I don't know why people would be ashamed. EMBRACE THE BOX OF YOUR PAST.

My favourite box moment was once finding the demo tape that this boy gave me of his (really, really, realllllly awful) band when I was in the tenth grade. I decided to play it, for fun, and noticed that it had been taped over with all kinds of "ethnic" programming from a Halifax university radio station.

Oops? There goes that memory!

I think people are ashamed because it almost makes it seem like you aren't "over" the people because you're still holding on to physical aspects of the relationship. And also because it can be awkward in the future. My defense is that I keep EVERYTHING that everyone gives me, boy I adore or not! And also it's usually a really funny way to feel better about yourself when you're not having such a great day.

Oh, god! I totally know how you feel about "the box" (hence my livejournal, naturally.) I'm still waiting for my "those were fun times" thoughts, with me it's almost always "how dare they leave this emotional baggage at my house" thoughts.

That's the way I felt too. What once was "Awww, this letter/card/drawing is amazing!" turned into "Screw the bastard who gave me something to remember him by."

This is horrible of me to say, but we're all a little horrible sometimes! Part of me hopes that one day I find the courage to take all the contents and have a triumphant and ceremonial bonfire where I will rip each piece up and throw it into a big fire while laughing maniacally and shouting "BURN! BURN! BURNNNNNNNNNNNNN! BE GONE FROM MY MEMORY!".

But then some of the things are also kind of adorable, and I'd probably regret getting rid of them shortly after the fire.

I agree! I think we should photocopy everything, then burn said copies.

I guess it won't be as radical or satisfying, but still fun.
