As many of you know, the Canadian government will soon vote on whether to legalize Same-Sex Marriage nationwide. Most of us had the feeling that it would pass with a comfortable margin. Now that the matter has been declared as a "free vote" for non-Cabinet Liberal MPs, that isn't so clear any more. There is a lot of opposition to this, which is ( Read more... )

Vancouver Kingsway - position unknown
that's david emerson

i didn't vote for him, i have no idea what his position is (something about him being Canfor ex-ceo makes me think he is just pure evil all over) but none of that matters because cabinet members have to vote in favour!

ahh.. the system works.

Yeah, I meant to go through and remove all the cabinet people but I didn't get around to it.

I'm so ANGRY that it's a free vote for the Liberals though. This is one issue where I thought PM might actually take a stand, for once in his goodamn life.

Ok, so inspired by this I went through and added notes for all of the cabinet members who are forced to support it even if they don't like it. To them I say AHAHHAHAHHAHAHAH!

Ha! That's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Thanks for the list. I'm quite positive my MP (Ujjal Dosanjh, Vancouver South) will support gay marriage, but I sent him a letter anyway. You just never know how many people on the other end are sending letters, you know?

New Brunswick

Fundy - publicly opposed
Madawaska-Restigouche - wants to hear from constituents
Miramichi - publiclu opposed
St. Croix-Belleisle - publicly opposed
Saint John - publicly opposed
Tobique-Mactaquac - waiting to hear from constituents

So glad my riding isn't on there. When Andy Scott was campaigning, I told him that I definitely supported his stance on same-sex marriage, but I still wouldn't vote for him.

I seem to recall the equal marriage site actually having really positive things to say about Andy Scott. At least he's not a TOTAL douchebag.

I was bummed (although not entirely surprised) that so many of the of NB and ALL of the PEI MPs were opposed. Uggh. Even though Central Nova hasn't been my riding in like, 16 years, I still have half a mind to write Peter MacKay and be all "I hate you already, but THIS IS THE ICING ON THE GODDAMN CAKE, MOTHERFUCKER".

I have the misfortune to be currently living in wasteland that is the riding of Brian "no gays, francophones, or Indians allowed" Pallister, but at least only temporarily.

Yuuuck. Well, at least while you're a constituent, you can send him a letter or call and maybe be part of a potential compound impact?

No problem! I'm thrilled if the information gets around to people!

Going through the Quebec ridings was such a breath of fresh air after all the opponents in other provinces, let me tell you! At the end, I had to take a step back and think, "God, this country would be so fucked without Quebec".

I'm in Calgary South-Centre, and if my MP is waiting to hear from me, oh he'll hear from me.

Yay! I mean, obviously not yay that he doesn't support the bill, but I always feel "yay" when people care enough to push for the changes they want! According to CEM (which by the way, is run by THE MOST ADORABLLEEEEEEE man in the entire world and you would instanly fall in love with him), personal letters are way more effective than emails or telephone calls, so you might want to keep that in mind. And as always, there's no harm in convincing neighbours (although strategically you might want to stick to those you know agree with you!) to send letters or call too! Maybe you could even think about writing up a basic form letter?

Good luck!!
