Yes! I want to come visit Montreal soon but I fear I won't have any money / time until beginning of school! So I guess that means that for us to have dates, you'll just have to come to Ottawa!

But you HAD to mention salt&pepper tofu, didn't you? Now it's all I can think about! Guhhh!

i'll try to keep this short. brokensound01 July 21 2005, 20:22:35 UTC
haha karl marx, smarmy? perfect!

i have to support st. thomas aquinas being up there, since he's regarded as the founder of sociology. did you know he wanted to call it "social physics", but someone he hated had already used the term, so he changed his mind?

here's a mix of people i like: derrida, giddens, latour, weber, durkheim, AND i'm afraid i have to be cliche and go with rousseau.

PS i just realized it was pretty inconsiderate of me not to illustrate any concern for your health. bleeding from the face? i guess just be thankful it's not from the eyes, i have this big fear that someday i'll bleed from my eyes. that's sick.

anyway, feel better please.

Concern, shcomencern! People have been treating me like I'm some fragile being that is about to expire at any moment. I can use some tough love!

Thankfully the bleeding is restricted to the nasal area so far. If it moves to the eyes I'll let you know :(

This is totally embarrassing BUT, I have a HUGE soft spot for medieval Christian thought! It's so random! It's not even because I identify with what they had to say, but I think it was pretty remarkable for the time. Also he loved animals so much! So Tommy A. is an okay choice by me. Rousseau I feel I have to maintain a certain level of contempt for on account of his woman hatred, but I would support him being on the list so long as Wollstonecraft was also on the list! But anyway, I support him as a choice. Where would we be without the social contract, after all? Plus, you get so much academic cred for also making an obscure call like Latour, so I think you're in the clear overall.

And Derrida, yes of course!

I'm glad you had so many favourites. It seems a shame to pick just one!

I am rubber and you are glue... HUGGLES BACK!

We're going to be school twins, because I am taking my first real (not women's studies) philosophy class next year too! "Philosophy of Culture"!

It sounds like it could be very promising! I've been warned that philosophy can be pretty misogynist, so I'm going into it all with a bit of apprehension about that and perhaps you should too!

I don't want to be a women's studies pusher, but women's studies classes are also quite philosophical in nature while being (from what I can gather) less jargony and more relevant to your lived experience than philosophy. So keep that in mind if you ever want to take any more theory classes! I think you would really love it.

FUCK SCREAMING BABIES ARE THE WORST. Pamela it pains me terribly to read that you are unwellllll...I HOPE YOU'RE BETTER SO FAST.
PS: Whenever I am sick at home I awlays feel as if no one cares about me and get lonesome and depressed and crazy. When I had my wisdom teeth removed and they got infected I stayed home for three weeks hating absolutely everyone.
FEEL BETTERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY!

I l-o-v-e kids, but suddenly after this I am so averse to the idea of having any of my own. Babies crying is just the most stressful thing in the world for me. So loud and I don't know how to make them stop feeling sad which makes me feel sad and... it's horrible!

Staying home for weeks and being lonesome/depressed is pretty much where I was at. I was sad that no one seemed to care that I was feeling horrible, but at the same time couldn't rationalize "maybe they aren't concerned because they don't know?". The sick mind is not a rational mind, it seems! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one this happens to, because I felt a little crazy! Hopefully now that we are both aware of our tendencies it will prevent future crazy/lonesome/depressed episodes.
