Yesterday was the nicest day I've had in a while. It would have been perfect aside from dual incidents of bike dude sexism. Let's review

I will totallly look for it! I'm one of those people who tends to assume that everything is way easier than it actually is, so while bike repair seems pretty intuitive to me, I bet I'll actually mess it up terribly without guidance!
hi pamela! i finished the thumb gusset from your pattern yesterday, and now i'm stuck on the thumb itself!! i did the "m1, k14" part, but i simply can't figure out how to "work accross these 15 stitches" while leaving the rest of the mitten untouched?? i tried a couple of times but had to stop because it wasn't getting anywhere/i didn't want to ruin what i had already done. i think we will need to schedule another knitting session eventually...
OKAY. What you want to do is this. The front and back of the mitt stay on the needle at all times. After you make your one stitch (still with the wrong side facing you) purl across the next 14 (this means you purled 15 in total). Now! Flip your knitting so the right side is facing you and knit 15 (this will be the same 15 you just purled). Flip so the wrong side is facing. Purl fifteeen. Flip again... you get it? Basically you're only knitting & purling where the thumb will "grow" out of, and not the front or back parts.
Essentially you're doing this. This is exactly what it will look like with right side facing. Yes, that one row WILL only have stitches on one half at this point.
