welcome to toronto! I was about to message you through LJ to let you know that the RA drive for CUPE 3903 is in full swing if you wanna 1) sign a card and 2) help out with the union drive. We need around 300 cards signed for the labour board. It's been pretty good, so far.

Also, fixed gear bikes are evil. York marxists are also evil.

If you wanna hang out with someone at york, check out the radio station there or generally hang out - give me an email at sharmeen (at) resist (dot) ca.

How come fixed gear bikes are evil? I definitely find it creepy / nauseating the way people are so obsessed with them, but they just seem like much simpler machines to build/maintain which is why I'm leaning that way. Gears are confusing!

As for the RA stuff, I'm actually really confused about it now. My offer of admission SAID research assistanceship but then when I went to our orientation meeting the lady said to my group, "okay, so I see all of you have graduate assistanceships"?! So now I'm confused about which one I actually have. But I will definitely sign a card and, time constraints providing, help out!

I don't even think I know where the radio station is! The campus is still kinda confusing to me. Once I figure out my class schedule I'll let you know and maybe we can have tea some day or something?

Ooh, which 'hood? School or home? For your sake, I hope my home hood :)

We should have tea or lunch or something if you have some time!

Home :)
I have to babysit (keep an eye on things) some contractors over at a building at Spadina & Bloor while they fix pipes or something. I'm definitely up for tea/lunch/something, but I'll have to figure out what my schedule is like first.

Yesterday I walked by the same house that threw out the chandelier and it was gone, so I was at least thankful that someone else appears to have given it a good home. So wasteful! Ugh!

I still have limited knowledge of / exposure to Toronto, but I'm loving what I've seen so far!

Like 10 years ago I went to this awesome place in the theater district (it had a cow - a giant cow on the front of the building) that had fruit pizza. I'd drive to Toronto NOW to have it again because it was SOOOO GOOD.

I wish I remembered the name...

there is a store on the south side of Queen St. about a block east of Roncesvalles that has about a zillion used chandeliers, and I look longingly in there every time I pass, but cannot justify buying a chandelier in Toronto to haul to Halifax. but hauling it a streetcar/subway ride would be another matter entirely!

in other Toronto recycling news, somebody was throwing out a muffin tin that looked way nicer than the four rusty ones my roommate and I have when I was heading to my friend's place in the Annex last week, but it also seemed ridiculous to be scavenging kitchen items on my way to a concert in a city I don't live in

I can't believe that exists! It sounds exactly like what I'm looking for though, so I will definitely make my way over to see what's what. A mere streecar & subway ride away can be totally justified!

In the past 24 hours I've also found in the garbage (and taken)
- two coffee tables
- a bookcase
- a shiny metal chair that reminds me of a hair salon circa 1975
- a coppery folding table
- a white scrolly metal... shelf thing? shoe rack? plant stand?
- a small television that totally works

Frig. How are people so wasteful?!

That's weird, I walked by Urban Outfitters on Yonge just as the lights went out!

Creepy! I was just inside by the doors when that happened! Were you stalking me or something? Why didn't you just say hi, Marc :(
