Windows 7

Jan 08, 2009 22:10

Windows 7 is coming out in beta this weekend.  It's a no-brainer upgrade from Vista, as it is, for my purposes, a strictly superior OS.  And if you're stuck on XP, it's finally time to move on.   If you're running Leopard or Linux, there's probably nothing I can say to convince you anyway.

I'm amused that after reading this, next in my LJ reading list was: http://xkcd.com/528/

Seriously, I am looking forward to trying 7 out.

So which option did you use? Fresh install, upgrade or a virtual drive?

I've done a bunch of trouble-free upgrades on machines at work, but I did a fresh install on my laptop, and I recommend it if you can do it. If you do upgrade, make sure to go to the User Account Control and change the default setting to your liking, as it won't dare to change it if you're upgrading.

I did a fresh install. Lol! I fully agree. Since Vista, one of the very first things I do when I reinstall an OS is to disable the UAC. It's so ridiculous.

For 7, the default on a fresh install is less annoying than Vista. You should try the default, since it's more secure, and see if you like it better.
The major difference seems to be that it doesn't bug you when you're doing stuff in the control panel and other administrative tools.
