About a month and a half ago I came home at lunch time and there was an excavator in the lot next to mine... pulling out the tree trunks of the Douglas firs that were removed last spring. While there, he also dug the trenches for the foundation of the house that would be built ( Read more... )

I would hate it a lot less if I still had my trees.

But, yes, I hate it.

I know exactly how you feel as the same thing happened to us, except even closer so there is no room to plant trees without taking up a big portion of my back yard. I still go out in my PJs... damn them.

Whoa. Big house. I love it how it starts raining and all of a sudden the construction speeds up so the builders can get a roof over their heads. I'm lucky that the neighbors that can see me training are cool, although they did ask, "I thought you said this dog was stopping on the contacts?" LOL.

what is with people and giant houses anyway... It's Portland though, I am sure they won't be shocked at all by naked yard working.

Oh, there's still a good chance they'd be shocked!

Giant houses! I don't think they build modest family homes any more, unless you want to live in Estacada or Forest Grove.

I think the choices for blueprints are :McMansion or Tiny shoebox sized house, nothing between...

Oh no, FG is full of McMansions - street of dreams copycats spring up all around.

You probably want to get evergreen trees to maintain your privacy. You could plant ready tall arborvitae to block the windows but they are picky and need watering - constantly.

I would probably go for something like a doug fir or a cedar of lebanon (the ones that proliferate around Seattle) but they are take a while to get tall enough to block those 2nd floor windows. Both the fir and the cedar shed horrible little pointy needles (the cedar is worse) so maybe something else would be better on naked feet and paws.

I'll think about it too.
