Mine's been acting up recently and it did not help that I also dropped it the other day. I'm getting enough back in taxes that I can afford a MacBook Pro w/ my student discount, but I don't know if that's sane. I could get an Air or just a regular MacBook, and I know any of which I would have and use for years. But this laptop's still chugging ( Read more... )

I wouldn't even bother with a windows machine. try to limp along with the current macbook until you have enough for a new one?

I had my lovely MacBook stolen more than a year ago, I've been limping since then on a Windows machine. It's not horrible, it works, but it's not going to be as solid for much longer. I guess my main issue is- if I buy into Mac now, will I regret it next month when something better's out? My tax return will more than cover it, it'd just also cover a lot else (car, NYC trips, etc.). I'm scared!

maybe? I'm not that much into having the latest/greatest, so having one generation back on a Mac isn't that much of a hardship for me. I'd be happy as long as it was reliable.

I'm sorry, I don't think I was clear and may have came off as snooty. I honestly don't care what version I have, I just don't want to do what I seem to always do when buying an Apple product and invest a whole lot of money into something that changes and lowers in price. I don't think I care what version I have since they're all excellent machines, I just don't want to overpay.

Something better will always be out in the future. It sounds like you want a new Macbook Pro. Go for it, and stuff!

Well, my problem with it isn't that I want the most updated version, I just don't want to overpay for what I'm getting. OR, I want to wait so that I can get this version for less. Apple changes so quickly, I never know when to invest or when to wait.

It's Apple! Of course you'll overpay! ;)

Take the money you would spend on an MBP, spend half on a nice Windows laptop, and save the other half to replace it with something better when something happens to the first one.

I think I'm pretty set on a Mac. I like the OS a lot better, I like the style of the laptops and I know they last a very long time- have excellent warranties, etc. etc. I'm just not willing to put stock into another fairly cheap windows machine that I'll replace within a year or two.

Yeah, I kind of got that impression, but my alignment requires me to talk shit about Apple products whenever the opportunity arises.

Understood. Windows isn't bad. If I could find the right machine and take a few hours to keep it from looking so fugly (god I hate Win 7!), but I'm just not a srs bsns computer user, I just want something that works and is easy out of the box and with little to no thought to keep it going. I'm so sorry, I hope you understand.
