From time to time Charlotte Charles found herself falling asleep at her job. It was not often, but it was occurring at a much higher rate than she would have liked. Having sat down to wait for the cake she had baked that morning to cool, the clean up done and the dinner preparations not yet started she had settled down in the over stuff arm chair. After two months here, Alex had been long since been made aware of the fact that this island didn't have the same problems as the last she'd been on, that children were born here and women gave birth without any issue whatsoever. It didn't stop her from pausing for just a moment when she realized who was speaking to her, though she smiled right after. She doubted she would ever fully get used to this place, but she was doing better, at least.

"It smells great," she said warmly, turning away just long enough to retrieve the glass that she had initially been going for and filling it with water before turning to face the woman again. "Did you bake that?"

With a little effort the girl named Chuck got to her feet and moved over to the counter. At the present time she was not so large as to be ungainly, for the most part she was only just showing. There was a bit of nervous excitement that radiated about her. Motherhood was something that she knew about through stories and words. Living it was something else.

"I did," she nodded, breathing deeply before bending down to get a bowl for the frosting. "Chocolate chocolate cake. It felt like that sort of day."

"Well, I could never object to chocolate chocolate cake," Alex said with a short laugh, grinning. It seemed like there was always something baking in this kitchen, and always good; maybe it was a small thing, but it was one of this place's better attributes, the kitchen itself something that would have seemed cold and clinical if not for the constant stream of people going through it. "I guess I'll just have to stick around until it cools down."

"Very few people can." Walking over to the sink, Chuck washed and dried her hands. Going about making food without good hygiene was never something she wished to do. Food born illnesses might not lead to the end of the world but she wasn't about to be responsible for an epidemic.

"It should be cool now." Reaching out to check the temperature with the tips of her fingers, she nodded at the assessment. "Yep, all it needs is frosting which I'll whip up now. You're more than welcome to lick the spoon though."
