That day had started off much like any other. Of course as it had carried on the girl named Chuck had grown increasingly uncomfortable. This was nothing new. She had spent a large portion of the past month feeling something akin to a beached whale. Movement had been difficult, her balance had been off and whenever she could she found a chance to ( Read more... )

As the months passed by since receiving their news, the pie maker had been both dreading and looking forward to this very day (or night, as it were). Digby's head perked up in time with Ned's when Chuck called out, and he put his own reading down as anxiety and excitement flooded through his body.

Of course, the fear then took over. Knowing they had a baby on the way did nothing to prepare Ned for actually having a baby on the way.

"Okay," he said reassuringly as he went over to Chuck's side, more for himself than her. "Okay, we...we need to get you dressed, and - and pack a bag, they do that, right? Pack bags?"

With a sigh of effort, she swung her legs over the side planting them on the floor. Steadying herself with the back of the bed, she shook her head. Another wave of pain ran though her, an all over ache that felt worse than anything else. Dying had been easy. Of course there had been pain, but it had ended fairly quickly and been more shocking than anything else.

This was definitely shocking, but a lot of other things as well. "We can..." she groaned, holding her stomach. "We can get those things later. We should go. Now."

"We're going," said Ned, putting an arm around Chuck's shoulders to help her up. In this scenario, she had more of a right to tell him to shut up and put his anxiety away, as she'd be the one doing all the work for the next few hours.

"Good..." Chuck made a face, stopping to take a deep breath. This was not the sort of experience that could be prepared for with books. It was one that could be read about but even that seemed to leave an awful lot out. Namely exactly what it felt like.

Perhaps she should have included more documentaries in her list as she prepared. That might have helped a lot more. Nodding to herself, she leaned against Ned. "Okay, yes. Maybe a little faster."
