My first reaction to this was: why, why does everybody like to lump engineering and computer programming in with "left-brain", non-creative, ( Read more... )

You know, the thing I hear the most about our generation is that we are completely self-centered, spoiled punks who need instant gratification and that we are going to doom society with our selfishness.

It gets me worried when I hear that, but you just reminded me of a good point: only baby boomers ever seem to say that.

So fuck'em. I think this stuff about so called "left-brainers" vs. "right-brainers" is for the most part bullshit. I don't disagree with the idea that some people are more creative than logical and vice versa, but this idea that you are constrained into one hemisphere is idiotic.

I hear so much shit about right-brainers being creative, yeah whatever. I also hear that people who are left-handed are also right-brained. But every artist I've known through my childhood was right-handed. So I just think its all a bit of bullshit.

I think it's funny that they're so quick to sound the alarm about our generation while we're still too young to have even done anything, while their generation has been openly and proudly fucking everything up for decades now. So self-aware, and yet...

Boomers were the first major proponents of the idea that being different is not only a good thing, but should be elevated to some sort of deified goal of perfection. This entire article operates under the assumption that the "left-brain" way is the old-fashioned way, and that new is always better than old.

In short, these people have a nasty habit of identifying something about themselves that they think is "different", ie better, and then writing books about why it's awesome. This becomes a problem when you have no useful skills, but decide that that's actually a good thing, find millions of other similarly-useless people, and then start making policy decisions in government based on it.
