Some want pope to scold pro-choice Pelosi
No, I don't want him to "scold" her.  I want him to bitch-slap her with an excommunication for public scandal so hard, her head spins.  Then I want him to do the same for all senators and House Reps who identify themselves as Catholic but maintain an anti-Catholic voting record.  I want to see a tenth of ( Read more... )

I'd agree you can't claim to be an "ardent Catholic" and be OK with abortion...I also agree Holocaust deniers are idiots...but can a Pope who was a member of the Hitler Youth really be in a position to "scold" other people on their digressions?...purely an academic question not a passioned personal/theological attack

*debate starts here...*

NB. - Can you tell it's been 5 months since I was sat in a shed in a wood and allowed to start contentious debates without anyone taking it personally?

*isn't offended and likes lively debate*

Yes, a pope can and a man can. Think of it in terms of being a repentant sinner. Do you not think a man convicted of murder and remorseful has the moral authority to tell people that killing people is bad?

On the pope's involvement in Hitler's Youth, here's an AP article from the New York Times (wanted to find one that wasn't from a Catholic news source. No one can claim the NYT is pro-Catholic!) http://bc.edu/research/cjl/meta-elements/texts/cjrelations/topics/new_pope_defied_nazis.htm

[cues cheesy Hammond organ] Amen and hallelujah, sister!

I have way more to say on the Benedict-SSPX controversy than would befit this comment box. Suffice it to say that these are the decisive days for Pope Benedict. Will the recent manifestation of the postmodern world's hatred for the Church galvanize him into doing the right things, the way the revolutions that swept Europe in 1848, Rome included, did for Bl. Pius IX?
