your yearly lj post already? gosh, how time flies! (heh)
i remember us talking about you going to this thing during an earlier year, back in my usenet days. at the time i was stoked about john kricfalusi's new season of ren and stimpy. boy, did that ever turn out to be a dud.
Yes, he isn't doing anything that big now. Part of the problems with that season of Ren and Stimpy is that the studio started taking control. Unfortunately the studio owned the rights to the characters, so they eventually got other people to make the show. It never was the same.
Lasse Gjertsen is turning down TV advertising opportunities, which may keep him fresh and interesting, but poor. I suppose the only way you can have both is if you're an entrepreneur/artist, like Andy Warhol or Salvador Dalí. But then people accuse you of being commercial (but still buy your stuff).

Last year's festival (2010) was okay, but no great films sprang out at me like in other years. The highlight was a talk by Teddy Newton the director of Pixar's "Day and Night" short film. We arrived half an hour early on a Sunday morning at the somewhat remote venue (Museum of Civilization) and found a huge lineup of other enthusiastic fans already waiting. It was quite worth it - he's a great speaker and showed the short twice, with the talk inbetween. I'm surprised that sound was such a last minute consideration, though of course it was well done.
