Prolog

Jaejoong has been staring at the beautiful endless blue sea for a century. It was still unfazed and remained unchanged by all the defiling the world has done to it.

“Jaejoong, I’ve found the perfect vessels for us. Will you come with me? And I was thinking that I’d have to force you down the human body this time too.” He laughed and shielded his bright laughter with one of his hand.

Hyunjoong’s painting drew Jaejoong’s attention to it. It was the perfect imitation of their last memory among humans, while they were still one too.
Yoochun chose to ignore the painting and only looked at Jaejoong.

“No matter where, or when we go, it will still be the same,” Hyunjoong said as he picked up a bottle filled with blue colour letting it gushed out onto his pallet.

“I’m still no ready yet. The two of you can go this time,” he announced.

Jaejoong snorted, kicking the sand.

“He’s just a coward. I’m leaving, so are you with me or not?” Yoochun meant to shake Hyunjoong up with those words, to bring forth rage of there was any left inside of him.

“Are you sure you’re not coming?” Jaejoong still wanted to ask again and to make sure. “You know this is equally your chance to experience and see again. Who knows, we might be able to change something this time.”

“No. You can go. I’m staying.”

“We won’t forget to bring you back a souvenir,” Yoochun grinned wickedly and pushed Jaejoong towards the sea.

“And I’ll be waiting for your death.” Comical and ironic was how it sounded since there was no longer death in their paths, which were already of the undead for eternity.

Chapter 1

I always believed I would not live pass 18 years old.
Besides, being an adult is no fun.
You can’t smile all you want.
Or, play with your toys in public.
And, you can’t shred of the responsibilities that you don’t want.
Most importantly, you can no longer have innocent smiles.
Because, adults are really dirty

”Hihihihi,” childish giggles echoed through the silent night. Cherubic feet splashed in the water sending water all over the pool.

The lull of children laughter was broken by a fight between brothers.

“No. Give me back my superman!”

The older boy hid the superman behind his back and used one hand to shield it from his little brother’s view. Angry with his big brother, the little rascal splattered water on him which made the older boy dropped the superman into the pool.

Finally, seeing his chance to get the doll back he lunged forward towards the edge of the pool and pushed his brother aside. However like always his stubborn older brother was already one step ahead and had managed to sit up and fight him for the superman.

It wasn’t fair. From the beginning the superman had belonged to him, a birthday present from his mother. Now his big brother has stolen it from him and refused to give it back. With all his strength he pushed his brother one more time while reaching for the superman.

This caused both of them to lose balance and fell into the pool. Then his brother had unintentionally dragged him down the seemingly bottomless pool. He was chocking for air but water was filling his lungs instead making him lose consciousness.

Frightened by the realness of the dream Jaejoong jolted awake from his bed panting. It felt so real, the water making him unconscious of his surrounding, of the lifeless body of Junsu. What had happened that summer day, eleven years ago was entirely his fault.

A knock on the door woke Jaejoong from his daze. The door opened and his little brother, Junsu came in still clad in his pajamas and wearing blue dolphin slippers.

“Jaejoong, mother and father are waiting for you downstairs. So you better hurry up.”

Jaejoong dug under the bed and found a pair of comfortable blue jeans that bare a little of his bare waist since it hung low on his hips.

“Junsu I had a nightmare last night,” said Jae Joong while debating choosing a black or yellow top. He finally picked a yellow top and also pulled a pink sweater over it.

“You know when we were seven during the vacation where mom brought us with her to visit grandma. We played too close to the outdoor pool and nearly drowned because of my stupid ego claiming the superman was mine.”

Outside birds were singing and the cicadas also chorusing loudly. A warm breeze entered the room when Jaejoong opened the window and used the curtains to shield the room from the sun.

“No, Jaejoong you know I don’t remember that day.”

“Yeah, I know but it’s still strange that you lost your memories of that day. I still remember it as clear as yesterday and now this dream,” taking Junsu’s hands in his, ”I think it’s a bad omen. We shouldn’t go to grandma’s place today.”

Junsu pulled out a chair and switched on the computer screen but it only blinked so he tried again. “Jaejoong when did you sleep last night?”

“Are you even listening to me? I’m serious. It’s like someone has prepared my grave.”

*Bling* The screen showed there was a new message. “Jaejoong you’ve got a message,” junsu said and before Jaejoong can say don’t open Junsu had already clicked on it and the screen went black.

“It could be a virus like last time.”

But then a grotesque picture of Jaejoong and Junsu appeared on the big Apple screen. Both their skins were colored seaweed green with blood oozing from their noses and dripping from the corner of their mouth. There was a bruise as big as two fists covering Jaejoong’s head and left eye.

Junsu’s face and body was not in any better shape if not more gruesome. His shoulder was ripped open and covered with blood with dark red scads visible. Junsu felt disgusted when he saw a cockroach crept out of his image’s mouth and entered his nostrils. He jumped out of the chair towards Jaejoong and hid his face between Jaejoong’s neck and collarbone.

Again the screen flashed and this time it showed a hollow skull. Also in large letters a message was seen *Kill the Kim twins and there will be a reward.*

“Jaejoong, why would someone do something this awful!” Junsu cried while tugging on the back of Jaejoong’s sweater.
In an attempt to prevent his brother from worrying Jaejoong had no other choice but to make up a lie,”I’m sure it’s just a prank message from Chun Hee.”

“Then should we tell mom and dad? Maybe we should tell the police and let them help us.”

“I won’t let them hurt you Junsu,” Jaejoong held Junsu in his arms and Junsu felt secured within and can breathe without feeling suffocated.

“I know Jaejoong.”

“Now let’s go downstairs and keep smiling because your smile brightens my day Junsu.”

When they got down Mrs. Kim was already seated at the left end of the table. She rose from her seat to help her sons get started on dinner, piling their bowls with vegetables and also prepared the tofu soup for Junsu. If Junsu didn’t eat soup with rice, then he would get gastric pains.

Jaejoong had just picked up his bowl to eat when all of he sudden he seemed to have lost his appetite. He placed it back down and started to fold the napkin instead. It was a habit of his whenever he got nervous or restless which was how he felt now.

Sitting in front of him was Junsu who noticed the lack of attention from Jaejoong. He was not scooping food of his bowl. His small fingers reached across the table and he tried to catch Jaejoong’s eyes.

For a second they stared into each other’s eyes, able to communicate without speaking aloud. Sharing Jaejoong’s thoughts he spoke up, “Mom, I’m not feeling that well. Can I stay home?”

Mrs. Kim stopped eating and bent over the table to check Junsu’s temperature and found it normal. “Are you feeling sick today?”

Junsu nodded and put on a miserable face acting like he was nauseous from eating.

“Dear you should eat more. How else are you going to get stronger and fight your asthma?”

“Mom I’m just not feeling well today so can I stay home?”

Jaejoong picked this moment to butt in, “Mom I can stay home and take care of Junsu if you’re worried of his asthma attacks. You and dad can have fun.”

Mrs. Kim obviously doubted both her sons and judging by their looks she can tell both of them were hiding something. “Jaejoong you were the one who nagged me to go on this trip so you can give up on that thought. Both you and Junsu are coming. End of discussion.”

With that the Kim family continued eating in silence. The only sound that can be heard was the clatter of chopsticks and bowls. No one tried to make anymore conversation and it was not like anyone bothered to. It was just another morning.

After breakfast Mr. Kim loaded their luggage into the car and made the final preparation for the trip. “Junsu did bring an extra inhaler?”

“I did.” Junsu shouted from the second floor before coughing for a few times. He wasn’t supposed to shout or to overexert himself. When he saw Jaejoong lifted a large bag into the trunk of the car Junsu had intended to help but Jaejoong had declined and asked him to wait in the car.

When he looked outside from the car window it was truly a happy sight. His mom was locking up the door and his dad had just got back from the garage carrying with him his fishing gears. Jaejoong took his seat beside Junsu and rolled down the window.

“Mom can we have two windows open?”

“No Junsu. It’s not okay since you might catch a cold. You can have the window beside you open but that’s it.”

Jaejoong sitting on his left side was listening to his mp4. His eyelids was not completely closed and he was musing over the song he was listening. It was from Jaejoong’s favorite band Fahrenheit.

Junsu put his arm outside the open window and rested his head to the side of the car. Throughout the ride Junsu felt good to have the wind blowing against his face, to have the sun shine on him and the smell of nature reached his nose. After what seemed like an eternity Mrs. Kim finally rolled onto a driveway and parked the car.

Junsu undid his belt and got down the car. The gravel underneath his sneakers covered feet made him feel close to the earth and the stability of standing on a hard surface made him cheered inside. He walked into the hotel and waited for his parents and Jaejoong.

Mr. Kim rolled the luggage into the hotel and waited for his wife. “Jaejoong, when is Yoochun arriving?”

“He’s already here. Aunt Park is broadcasting a live show about this hotel so he had arrived earlier with her.”

Speaking of the devil Mrs. Park had arrived from the west entrance into the lobby. She was dressed in a skirt suit which was considered fashionable business attire.

With her was Yoochun who looked goofy in his summer shorts and an oversized Hawaiin shirt. Jaejoong couldn’t stop himself from running towards him and crushed himself onto Yoochun’s chest. “I’ve missed you so much baby.”

Yoochun returned the sentiment with the same passion, sharing a brief kiss on the lips aware that both their parents were there. No matter how tolerant they were of their relationship but they knew not to push it. There was a line that should never be cross.

“Let me introduce you to the Manager. This is Manager Dong Shibaek and my friend Kim Shinhye, principal of Epik High, her husband Kim Kangsoo who is the president of a construction company. If you need any help around the hotel you can call him.”

Introductions were made to get to know each other better and to appear modest on what you do. The grownup world had a lot of rules and in Yoochun’s eyes it was all fake and pretence. He hated it when his mother acted like that.

Still in Yoochun’s arms Jaejoong found Junsu looking at him with his large doe eyes trying to tell him something. They shared no secrets and Junsu’s mind was just like a mirror of his own.

“Umm, Jaejoong, I want to go for a walk.” The pleading stares which Junsu threw at Jaejoong were like that of a puppy.

“Should I accompany you Junsu?”

“No. I’ll be back soon.” He hurried off leaving Jaejoong and Yoochun staring at his small frame. They both had the same thought running through their mind, *Junsu please be safe.*

When Junsu exited the hotel he inhaled deeply the fresh air, which was a little bit too damp and wet for his taste since it had rained last night. Not sure where to go Junsu followed whatever that interesting that came into his view.

As he walked along the empty road Junsu felt the weight of a cold stare, so intensive and fierce that the hair on his arms stood up. Just as he thought he would catch this secret peeper after turning around swiftly but he was met with an empty road.

“Maybe it’s just my imagination,” Junsu mumbled to himself and walked towards a café.

A/N: If you wonder about the prolog youy should read my other fic called fairy land to just get a hunch of what it's all about, otherwise you don't need to know what it's all about.
