[ If Lestat leaves the apartment that evening, he might notice the small basket placed outside the door. It contains a small bundle of suitable paper for writing, carefully wrapped in a frayed ribbon, a pen filled with blue ink, and a battered copy of Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The awkwardly torn note card nestled inside reads simply:

"Joyeux anniversaire."

Louis, of course, is no where to be found as he's long since returned to the Townhouse. He knows Lestat is busy, after all. ]

[ Lestat would have been looking for Louis to be around on the PCD network that evening. But he didn't see him online once, so Lestat decided to send Louis a recorded message. He was pleased that Louis remembered his birthday, while he was preparing for the prom that he was supposed to be performing at. This was yet another reason why Armand was better for Louis than Lestat was; Lestat was just too selfish. ]

Thank you very much for remembering, Louis, mon amour. I apologize deeply for not being able to see you today, but I promise, the reasons for this will be apparent in the coming weeks. I'm sure you have heard of the 'prom' the mortals of this world are excited about; I was invited to perform live for them, and I obliged. If you will permit me, I would like to invite you and Armand to attend. I will gladly dedicate one of my performances to you, the greatest friends and lovers I could have asked for in my two hundred and fifty years of life.
