Then.
I wonder what's to come.

Personal Report Files of Professor Hojo : Natives II | Report on the Natives I
DATE OF REPORT: 060808.
DATE OF INCIDENT: 290708.
REPORT ACCESS: SCIENTIST HOJO, TURK RENO, NON-SHINRA INDEPENDENT OPERATIVE SASUKE UCHIHA.
NEGOTIATOR: SCIENTIST HOJO, henceforth referred to as HOJO.
SUBJECT: UNIDENTIFIED NATIVE #0001, henceforth referred to as NATIVE1.
REPORT:
HOJO attempts to engage natives for answers [
1] pertaining to the incident concerning the library and the appearance of WEAPON (henceforth simply referred to as the Library Incident) [
2]. NATIVE1 responds, inviting HOJO to meet at the location as indicated on the accompanying map [
3]. Physical contact is made [
4]. No recording or transcription available.
Below is the negotiator's report of information gained from the meeting.
---
I arrived at the prescribed location approximately 20 minutes after my final response to NATIVE1 on the system. NATIVE1 arrived approximately 5 minutes afterwards. As with the unidentified native who communicated with current Nuadorian occupants during the Library Incident [
5][
6], NATIVE1 clearly possesses the ability to mimic an individual's external appearance, and thus elected to reproduce my own.
[Locked to Hojo Only] Without the opportunity for dissection, it's uncertain just how deep this mimicry goes, but one does wonder if there would be a way to revert them to their natural state for further study. I don't doubt that such an endeavour would prove fruitful. [/Locked]
NATIVE1 additionally shares the same slowness and uncertainty of speech as the native concerned with the Library Incident, indicating that these are shared attributes amongst them, or that it was the same one involved in both incidents. It is not to be confused with stupidity. NATIVE1 appeared to have a keen intelligence, and was quite perceptive.
However, NATIVE1's responses to inquiries were also frequently vague, but several facts can be assumed from the nature of the native's reactions and phrasing in response to those questions.
I have reason to believe that the natives aren't responsible for the arrivals, nor, presumably, for the communication system by which we operate. When asked why the arrivals had come, NATIVE1 expressed surprise. The answer it gave suggests that they have assumed we arrived here of our own accord.
It suggested on further prompting that the arrivals were initially believed to be similar to the feline monsters that attacked them [
7]. However, during the settlement period, they had believed the arrivals had begun to coexist with them. A 'favour' was referred to, in which the native bestowed an arrival with something they had lost. The impromptu destruction of the library in the Library Incident was thus considered an act of betrayal or treachery, leading to their violent reaction.
When asked whether the WEAPON was genuine or a mere illusion, it gave a fruitlessly philosophical answer. It suggested that nothing in Nuadoria could be confirmed as real or unreal. [Locked to Hojo Only] Given its other responses concerning the explosion, it's likely that the Library is a place of relatively great importance. Something to further investigate, I feel. [/Locked]
Shortly thereafter it terminated the conversation, and I was unable to pursue it for further questioning.
[Locked to Hojo Only] ...
Its final statement was, however, notable...
Something about learning to swim.
No doubt this portends something that's sure to be interesting. One can but wait and see. [/Locked]
