Entertainment Weekly and Katy Perry

Jul 26, 2008 17:15

I wrote to Entertainment Weekly about their Katy Perry "I Kissed A Girl" article. I was a little irritated that they didn't even mention the pro-LGBT people upset about the song, so this is what I sent them:

I'm surprised your article on Katy Perry didn't mention why some people are "put off" by the content of her hit single, "I Kissed A Girl"-- ( Read more... )

ILU.

I was severely pissed off when I turned on the music channel the other morning and found that the bloody song had made its way across the Atlantic. So many things about it piss me off - "it's not what good girls do." Oh, really? Very nice. I happen to be fucking lovely, thanks Katy. Her attitude in interviews is what tipped me over the edge; I think in Out she was justifying the song "Ur so gay" (another delightful "I'm edgy and cute so it's not really homophobic" song) by just repeating "No! Gay people have a great sense of humour." WE ALL HAVE A COLLECTIVE BRAIN, AND TOTALLY FIND THE SAME THINGS FUNNY. Wrong. Some of us are right miserable bastards.

ILU TOO.

"it's not what good girls do." Oh, really? Very nice. I happen to be fucking lovely, thanks Katy.

You are fantastic. Let me modify my earlier statement: ILU SO MUCH. :D

Oh god, and in one of the articles with her, she said the number one thing that will piss me off: "I know gay people! I love gay people!" I hate when people start making tokens of out other people. The "I can't be homophobic because I have a gay acquaintance" excuse makes me furious.

Can I be a right miserable bastard with you? *Puppy eyes*. :D

Totally agree with you. It pretty much just reinforces the notion that bisexuality and "experimentation" in women is only an act used to titillate men. Not to mention, how quick she is to justify her heterosexuality ("hope my boyfriend don't mind it...").

Exactly! Gah, it makes me angry. Glad you agree, though. :)
