The idea everyone seemed to have about shinobi was that they were an honourless crowd - and perhaps to a certain extent it was right, for the ones employed on the sly to deal with assassinations and dirty work. Kasuga had been one of those shinobi once, but though some habits could still die hard, her time in Echigo had taught her many new things. Amongst them, a moral code of honour befitting the servant of a warlord such as Kenshin. Though she was his blade, he was the one to wield her - with his philosophy of life and his decisions and their consequences

She was very aware that he was disappointed at how the day began. When she had won his service for one day - 'to see how it is to be Kasuga-chan for a change!' - she imagined he would expect something different, with a lot more bending over backwards involved
