I still need to go back and finish that one. I stalled out somewhere in the economy of cities due to exam stress...Now that that is gone I am free to read! I love it.
Should be loads of fun if you get to go...I know we had talked about that one awesome Brazilian architect before. Hopefully you can see a few of his buildings...
Good luck with your troubles - it doesn't sound like Tuscaloosa is quite up to par for you.
I used to work with four Brazilian brothers at the copy shop (naturally they were sometimes called "the Boys from Brazil" ). Found out from them that it seems like a pretty decent country.
Heh, Tuscaloosa is not up to par with me, which is why I am getting out for the summer. I have a place to stay and a job in Birmingham, so I am all set...Of course, this means that you, Ickna, and I will have to get lunch at some point.
Portuguese is a rather cool language. I have a couple of documentaries with Portuguese subtitles, and I don't even pay attention to the subject matter because I like to guess at which word means what...
And to which song are you referring? I don't really know any about Brazil...
Looking it up, I found that it's "Aquarela do Brasil", is sort of an unofficial national anthem, was voted "Best Brazilian Song of the Century" by the Brazilian Academy of Letters, and was created in 1939. Here's a sort of hokey version of the arrangement that I was thinking of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_PuhV0RatA

More recently, I was contacted by wargamer who's trying to get the hobby going there, so there's now an article on our games in Portuguese.
And now I can't get that catchy song outta my head... "Bra-zilllll, da da-da da-da da da daaaa..."

I know the song from the Brazil movie (which is good stuff and looks more prescient every day):
