Author's Note: Gift fic for Bethany. Jeez, I haven't written Slayers in forever. This isn't great, but it was the only thing I could think of for the theme. I had to ask my mom all these questions about having a baby!
The princess hummed to herself as she hurried down the hallway, her heels clicking cheerily against the wood. She could hardly believe the day had finally come.
“I’m so sorry I’m late!” Amelia exclaimed as she rushed through the door, a bit of color in her cheeks. “It was tough getting out of Seyrune with all the negotiations that are going on. Luckily, Daddy is covering for me.”
“You didn’t miss much.” Zelgadis replied wearily as he gestured for her to take a seat at the small table.
“I should really go in and see Miss Lina before-“ she began.
“No!” Gourry and Zel said in unison. She raised an eyebrow at them.
“She’s… resting.” Gourry replied and Zel just shook his head.
Amelia smiled sympathetically. “When did her labor start?”
“Last night.” He replied, a little panic seeping into his voice.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Gourry. Everything will be fine.” She told him as she settled in a chair and squeezed the chimera's hand in greeting. Zel handed her a cup of tea and she smiled her thanks.
“Unless Lina kills me.” The blonde responded morosely, glancing at the closed bedroom door. Amelia took a sip to hide her amused grin. It seemed she couldn’t stop smiling. There was nothing better than being there for her two closest friends as they brought a new life into the world. The two had spent years dancing around their feelings for each and then even longer before they were ready to do anything resembling settling down.
“Where’s the healer?” she wondered as she refilled her cup, suddenly realizing they were the only ones in the room.
“Lina scared her off three hours into this whole ordeal.” The chimera answered with a long suffering sigh.
“Surely she’ll come back when it’s time.” She said, suddenly nervous.
“That’s not a good idea.” Gourry said. “Besides, Lina said you’d do a better job.”
Amelia blanched.
“Let’s just hope that binding spell I found holds.” Zelgadis said
“Yes,” the princess agreed. “I’m sure the owner would be upset if she started blowing the place up.”
A low groan from the other side of the door had everyone on their feet in an instant. They filed into the room quickly.
Lina was propped up on a mound of pillows, her long red hair tied back in a pony tail. She was breathing deeply through clenched teeth.
“It’s time.” She ground out, fingers twisted in the sheets. Panicking, Amelia glanced around the room. It was a relief to find that everything was ready. Tying back her hair and swallowing her nerves, she got to work.

An hour later, a new born baby girl lay sleeping against Lina’s chest. Gourry sat close to them, staring at the child in wonder. Zelgadis and Amelia retreated to the sitting room to give their friends some privacy.
Picking up the teapot, she frowned at her shaking hands. Slipping the porcelain from her fingers, Zel pressed a kiss to her temple.
“You did very well.” He told her as he guided her to the couch. Leaning against him and thinking of how strange the passage of time could be, she drifted off to sleep.
