In the old times, mass publication was not possible without a considered approach, and a great amount of invested time. Therefore spelling and grammar were critical, and when a consideration was published it was the product of several bouts of refinement.
I would argue for an objective human nature, and that there are certain essentials that one can descend from into sub humanity. Technology mediates the experience of reality, and sends humans further from the experiences of what it is to be human....particularly in the United States, where we are masters of facsimile. The descent out of appreciation for human feelings, or even a belief in the human condition, leaves only a continuum with solipsism on one side and good works for selfish reasons on the other. The mediation of perceptions of loss and pain, as in the triumph of the therapeutic, is largely to blame for a disregard for the pain of others and the misinterpretation of one's own. If life ends in facsimile without consequences, as in a movie or video game where it is the violence for which the audience hungers, the mediated experience of that leads to a perception of life as less and less sacred- in fact sacredness is met with derision and cynicism.
