Oh god, I remembered this post today when I did another speaking-the-wrong-language-to-long-suffering-Korean-boys thing. Argh! It's so embarrassing, one of the many Korean 留学生 here has only just arrived and unusually, speaks good English and no Chinese. It was all right the first time I blathered at him in Chinese, we had just met and were sharing a taxi home and I was confused (and had had too much wine) and when I realised what I was doing I was like, "Why am I speaking Chinese to you?" and he said resignedly, "Because you are a little drunk." Owwwwch. But today it was daytime and there was no alcohol or anything, and I forgot to talk English to him again. Aaaargh! Still, I'm not actually mistaking him for a Chinese person, and I can't speak Korean anyway (fair dues, by the way!), I'm just... forgetting to talk the right language, and he clearly thinks I'm a total fool. :) What part of China are you going to in June then?

Yeah, languages get so confusing! My mother was telling me about a french teacher she had who spoke 8 languages, and sometimes she just couldn't figure out which one to speak to her husband and he got really annoyed at her.

I also knew an exchange student who had a total melt-down because she knew 5 and they all mixed together one day.

I'm probably gonna be in Beijing =)
