If it's Friday, it must be Fright Night.

So I went to see Fright Night this morning with morgaine_nicely at a local theater I hadn't been to in ages. And they had RECLINERS. Seriously, every seat was a red leather (or pleather, probably) recliner. With a footrest and everything. I could've fallen ASLEEP in one of those suckers.

Unfortunately, I could've fallen asleep in the first half hour-forty minutes of the movie, too. Seriously, I got up and went to the bathroom at one point just for something to do.

Which is not to say David wasn't awesome. Of course he was. Nor is it to say that the movie wasn't funny--it was. Mostly in inappropriate places, like when they were trying to be scary.

Look, I know it's a remade 1980s horror flick, and that it's not meant to be Great Film Literaturetm. I know this isn't The King's Speech or Slumdog Millionaire or even The Matrix. But I have to admit I was hoping for something a bit closer on the horror spectrum to Shaun of the Dead, and a bit farther from Plan 9 from Outer Space.

So, overall: Acting, pretty damn good, from all the major characters (and a show-stealing scene from the main character's erstwhile best friend). Special effects, also pretty damn good. Story itself, yawnifying. I'm glad I saw it. I'm gladder I saw it at the cheap theater ($8 for a 3-D show). But this won't be on my "to buy" list, despite DT in black leather. Though I might collect a few screencaps of that. ;)
