CUSS WORDS post mortem

CUSSWORDS went really well. I think it went extremely well considering it was the first event I have ever hosted. The prizes were (relatively) generous because we didn't have to pay for the room. We were also able to do lunch and fancy-schmancy frozen yogurt in the afternoon. The top two seeds Peter Armstrong and Marty Gabriel) finished 1 and 2 ( Read more... )

Way to go, axolotl8. When I saw that he had only one loss and a +690 spread, it looked awfully familiar to me. Sure enough, I finished this tournament with exactly one loss and a +690 spread. What makes it more interesting is the person I lost to.

Thanks again for organizing the tourney. It was fun. As a minor correction to your recap, Marty's spread was about 50 higher than mine going into the final round and I was a point up on Peter (that changed quickly). So once Marty won, the scale of my blowout loss didn't matter.

Thanks for a great tournament. You shouldn't have been worried at all. Everything was great--the setup, the way it was run, great people, and an awesome location (and good tiles too). I loved playing downtown, rather than out in the suburbs. I've never tried directing and playing at the same time, so I understand how that could be difficult.

Good tiles indeed. I can't believe you averaged 471. That's awesome.

I wish we could have played before you left town, but Sunday was not meant to be. Quinn was a little sick and Katy had to do a ton of work for school. Sorry to leave you guys hanging. Hopefully it was good practice for you.

Yes, me too, I thought I would play you on Saturday. Sunday was a lot of fun also--great Collins practice and fun playing at the Mercury Cafe.

If I had to list the things that made me sad about this tournament, it would be:

1) Renato challenged off my play of YESWOMEN*. I was so proud of it! Apparently YESMAN* isn't even good.

That's pretty much it. I had a great time...thanks! You did a great job. Hope to see you again before you head southeast...I'm pretty sure you're due to crush me in a few games.
