I seriously cried, i laughed so hard. you know, i'm not exactly not feminist, but i disagree with feminists on a lot of levels (i'm female). many of the feminists i've come in contact with are only invested in supporting feminism when it benefits them. they want to be treated equally, however they balk at the idea of possibly ever being drafted into war. either you want equality, or you don't. you can't pick and choose exactly when you'll be treated equally and when you'll be treated as the fairer of the sexes.
i love firefly, it's one of my favorite shows. so it objectifies women sometimes. it objectifies men just as much. what show on television doesn't objectify either or both?
magical flower and big dumb muscle got married *snerk*. they were such a cute couple and i was DEVASTATED when they got divorced. i cried into my pillow for hours that night.
I cried so hard, too, when they divorced! Such a sweet couple, and their happiness was just snatched away by the evil powers that be.
If the show had continued, surely they would have found their way back to each other??

I'm a feminist (I'm a female, but everyone thinks I'm male because I wrote this stuff!), but I think that the word "feminist" is a misnomer. Equality between the sexes, calling someone an asshole because they're an asshole, not because they're a certain sex. A lot of so-called feminists are just whacked out man-haters who are just as sexist and disgusting as misogynists; they aren't feminists, and people shouldn't associate them with feminism. :\ And, yea, I totally agree that women have to give up special privileges for that equality, but strange that they balk!
Firefly does use some sexist stereotypes, but I think that it comes from the usage of the western stock characters and clichés, not because the people who made it believe in them. The average sitcom is a lot worse. All the "offensive" sexist
( ... )
exactly, "feminism" has become synonymous with this whole idea of women who make it their business to burn bras and continually hate on men. that's not what it's about. it's about equality amongst all men and all women across the board. Judging someone based on sex alone furthers the very stereotypes feminism is against. i'm tired of having to explain to people that while i'm a feminist, i don't hate men.
as far as television is concerned, there is just as much male "eye candy" as there is female "eye candy". for every busty cleavage baring female there is a shirtless well muscled man.
