Speed Traps

As many of you who have ridden with me, you know you'll get there pretty fast. I do drive with a lead foot for sure and over time I've gotten my share of tickets. However, it is not because I am driving unsafe necessarily, it is just because I'm going over the speed limit. Speed limits are almost always 10 to 15 MPH lower than what the ( Read more... )

They're using our own subconscious tendencies against us for profit. People naturally drive what they feel is safe, and I've been saved a few times from speed traps by other drivers who brake for them.

To protest the slow speeds, I drive the speed limit everywhere and brake excessively for red lights. It's become fun to annoy other drivers by forcing them to follow the law, especially when the other drivers are cops. Supposedly driving slower saves gas too...

The problem with speed in the city for me on highways is exits are closer together. Highways under the original Eisenhower Highway Act are required to have 1 mile of straight road for every 10 miles. This allows for emergency plane landings in time of war. Highways also were designed to be mainly for the transport of goods to and from cities however with urban sprawl that came in the 50s many more exits have to be added and populations exploded making highways the transit route from suburb into the city. That extra load on the highways makes highways need lower speeds since the suburbs tend to be a constant stream of exits ( ... )

Well it would make sense if the red light cameras were there for actual safety and letting people slide like 1 second or less going through the red for a little leeway. But they ticket anyone who crosses over the line just a little bit even if they don't even go through the light. I got a ticket for a right on red and it is allowed too, but it wasn't a full complete stop even though my light was a yellow arrow that was turning off. My red light was there for 0.3 seconds and there wasn't another car in sight.
