So I've been trying to catch up on all this crap that happened on the fringe communities. A lot of it was pretty fucking funny, and I think the recent meltdowns indicate that LJ-philosophy has the capacity to become quantitatively more entertaining as time goes on. I'm going with (b). I remember the nanikore who posted a lot, and when people disagreed with him, he referred them back to his earlier posts, saying "But I explained it all in this diagram!"

I think the whole 'be practical' thing possibly comes from the realization that while he doesn't get acclaim for his philosophical ideas, he does manage to succeed well enough at engineering to make a living, and what could be ore practical than engineering.

Also, while I doubt that Christ came to him in a vision and told him that philosophy was a colossal waste of time, he did start attending church at one point during his transitional phase - possibly looking for the validation that he had failed to receive when discussing philosophy on the interwebs.

See, I always thought this was a diagram of someone looking up from the bottom of a toilet bowl, I guess because listening to nanikore explain his philosophy was not unlike being crapped on.

But now it's finally making sense. Meaning goes down... at the same time that knowledge goes up. Great Scott!
